      According to these listings, there were 273 people paying taxes in 1815, and 459 paying taxes in 1816 in Lawrence County, Missouri Territory. That's almost double the population in only a year!"

    • * page 20 - Apr 1844 - Estate of John Janes dec'd - This day appeared Jarrett E. Janes, one of the admins of said estate and moved the court to assign him counsel to prosecute and defeat all suits for the collection of money due said dec'd, as may be required.

      * page 30 & 31 - Apr 1844 - Estate of John Janes dec'd - Admins of said estate came and moved the court for an order to hire the slaves belonging to the said estate. It is threfore ordered by the court that said administrators proceed to hire out the slaves belonging to said estate to the highest bidder, at he late residence of John Janes, dec'd, on 10 May 1844 next, until the first day of Jan 1845. Said adminstrators are to advertise said time and place of hiring at their most public places in the county at least ten days previsous to said day.

      * page 157 - Apr Term 1845, 1st Monday of term - Guardianship of Thaley B. Janes & Margarett B. Janes - This day came Mary Janes, mother of said minors and moved the court, by petition to appt James Janes, guardian of said minors. Whereupon James Janes, with Alexander R. Sloan & Jarrett E. Janes as securities, filed the bond for the sum of $1,000 and was appt guardian of said minors.
      * page 164 - Apr 1845 - Estate of John Janes dec'd - James Janes and Jarrett E. Janes administrators of said estate moved for an order to hire out the slaves belonging to the said estate for the term of five months. The court ordered that the said admin of said estate proceed to hire out the slaves belonging to said estate at the residence of Mary Janes on teh 22nd day of May 1845. Said admins must advertise the same at six of the most public places int he county at least 20 days previous.
      * page 217 & 218 - July 1845 - Estate of John Janes dec'd - Polly Janes, widow of said dec'd by petition moved the court for an order on Jarret E. Janes and James Janes administrators of John Janes, dec'd to appt a commission to lay off and set apart her dower lands accordign to law. Commissioners were appt to lay off and set apart her dower in the lands and slaves of said John Janes, dec'd. It was also ordered the administrators pay over to the said widow one third part of all the personal property the said John Janes dec'd died seized and possessed of.
      * page 218 & 219 - July 1845 - Guardianship of Wm Janes, minor - This day came William Janes, a minor heir of John Janes, dec'd and moved the court by petition to appt Wm B. Marshall as his guardian. Whereupon came Wm B Marshall together with Jarrett E. Janes and James Janes securities to file their bond. The court then ordered that Wm B Marshall be appt guardian of the said William James (sic) minor.
      * page 219 - July 1845 - Guardianship of Elizabeth, John and Andrew Janes (minors) - This day came J.E. Janes and James Janes who moved to appt Abraham Wyatt as guardian of Elizabeth Janes, John Janes and Andrew Janes, minors under the age of 14 and heirs to the estate of John Janes, dec'd. Whereupon Abraham Wyatt, with Jarrett E. Janes and James Janes as his securities, filed their bond for the sum of $2,000, which was approved and Abraham Wyatt was appt guardian of the said Elizabeth Janes, John Janes and Andrew Janes, minors.
      * page 254 - Oct 1845 - This day came Grisham Durham and William Berry two of the commissioners appt by the probate court to lay off the dower of Mary Janes, widow of John Janes, dec;d and made their report as follows, to wit: Agreeable to an order of the probate court of Lawrence Co., AR, July term 1845, as directed they layed off her dower of the lands the said dec'd was possessed of at his death, agreeable to the information they received they layed off a lot of land beginning at the SW corder of the SE half of the South West quarter of section 18, TWP 19 N of Range 2 West, containing 100 acres more or less, includign the mansion house and other buildings - dated 19 Sept 1845 and sworn to in open court by Grisham Durham and William Berry commissioners
