- Rev War Pension File - Survivor #18896, BLWt 36556-160-55 - Shaderick James of Union Co., SC, Pvt in the Company of Capt Cate, Regt commanded by Col Moore, for 7 months & 7 days - Pension issued 17 Dec 1849.
* #215381 - dated 1 Oct 1855 shows a Martha James as the minor child of Shadrick James, Rev Pensioner
* Union Co., SC, 23 Jun 1846, Shadrick James a resident of said district, age 82, made the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of Congress passed 7 Jun 1832. He entered in to the service in the fall or witner of 1780 in Capt Josiah Coles Company as a volunteer and oen william More was his Colonel, with Archibald Murphy as Major. They marched from Caswell Co., NC, wherein he resided, to Halifax court house Virginia. He was in the Battle at Gilford Courth House, NC was about 15 Mar 1781. The next day after the battle he got his discharge. After that he was drafted and served a tour of three months, after that he was discharged. When Hillsboro, NC was invaded by the Tory's he went as a volunteer to Hillsboro, NC and served a tour of five weeks. He was involved in a battle on Haw River at a place called Ready Fork. He removed from Caswell County, NC some time in the year 1795 to SC. - signed by his mark Shedrick "X" James
* Willis Walker, a clergyman residing in Union District, SC certified that he was well acquainted with Shedwick (?) James for the last forty years. The he knows him to be 82 years of age, and believes he was a soldier of the revolution. 23 Jun 1846 - Willis Walker
* Union District, SC - 8 Jun 1855 - David Janes, aged 47 years, a resident of the same district and state aforesaid, declared that he is the guardian of Martha James, a minor, who is the daughter of the ___ Shadrick James, dec'd, who was a Rev pensioner. The said Shadrick James died at his residence in the aforesaid district and state on or about 27 Apr 1852, leaving surviving him his heirs at law, his widow Theny (?) James and her infant the said Martha James, who is now fourteen years of age, and also several children of a former marriage of whom the declarant is one, and all above the age of 21 years. That the widow the said Theny (or Thessy?) James died on or about 15 Feb 1853, and that the said Martha James is the only child of the said Shadrick James, dec'd under 21 years of age. He further declares that from his own knowledge the said Theny James, widow of the said Shadrick James, dec'd, applied for the said dec'ds pension at the time of his death. signed by his mark David "D" James, 3 March 1855 - George Brown and Benjamin Holmes, residents of Union District, SC declared that they were well acquanted with David James and his ward Martha James, and that she is a minor under the age of 21. They were also acquanted with Sadrick James, the dec'd, during his lifetime and that he was the father of the said Martha James, who was born in wedlock and always acknowledged by the said Shadrick to be his daugther.
* Greenville District, SC - Philip J___es (James?) made oath that he was brought up in the state of NC, Caswell Co. and was living in said state and county at the time of the Rev war. He further states that he is a brother of Shadrock James, now a citizen of Union District of SC and further states that his brother Shadrock James was a solider in the Revolutionary War and served two tours of three months each and one tour of five or six weeks in the NC line. That he has heard James Williams, Charles and Nathaniel Guttereys and Richard Sanders say they served with Sharock (Shurock/Shusock?) James in the army. He has no record of his {{the word brother is marked out}} age but always understood he was born in the year 1761. 15 Nov 1849. signed by his mark Philip "X" James
