- George Harmon died intestate between 1899 and 1900. It took years for his estate to be settled and some of his heirs even died during the probate of his esate. Since he died intestate, without issue, his estate (after the dowers portion) reverted to his siblings or their heirs. Several of George's siblings are not mentioned and we can only surmise this is because those are siblings who George may not have even known really. George as born about 1831 from Littleton's second marriage and many of those thought to be his older siblings left NC/TN before George was an adult. He was about 4 years old when his brother Henry moved off to AR; at this time little is known of his brother John after 1830; his brother William was living in IL by 1831; and by 1839 his sister Nancy had moved off to MO. Certainly these siblings were most likely long forgotten by the citizens in the area by 1899, and while some of the nieces and nephews may have known their names, it is probable the great nieces and nephews may not have known.
In fact of those mentioned as having locations/residence unknown, they were the siblings who had stayed in the Dickson/Hickman Co., TN area at least until after the Civil War. It also probably didn't help that by the time George was dec'd all of his known siblings (via circumstantial or proven) were deceased, as were many of their children. The estate went to a few nieces and nephews, but primarily to great nieces and nephews and was divided up in to sizes as small as 1/315 & 1/189.
Basically the estate was divided into seven shares:
* 1/7 to the heirs of Charlotte Harmon, who m. Columbus Potter & whos whereabouts were unknown
* 1/7 to the heirs of Tabitha or Tabby Harmon, who m. a Sharron and whos whereabouts were unknown
* 1/7 to the heirs of Bettie Harmon, who m. Kendrick Myatt
* 1/7 to the heirs of Sallie Harmon, who m. Eli White
