      His declaration of service is date 4 Oct 1832 - Pickering District, SC
      He was about 75 years of age - he entered the service in March or April of 1779 at 18 years of age - At the time of his enlistment he lived in Franklin Co., NC on the waters of the Tar River - He first served in his fathers place he was discharged and returned to Franklin Co. - his second tour was in place of man who's name he does not remember - after he returned home he was hired to take the place of a man named Matthew Lowry. He served a total of 5 tours for 23 months. He is listed as poor and old, and he stated that he was unable to get any information of any person living who can testify for him, except John Bagwell, who was with him and served with him during his last tour (that tour lasted 12 months). "He was born in Bute, Co. (afterwards divided and called Franklin) North Carolina". When he was called in to service he lived in Franklin Co., NC and lived in Wilkes Co., GA the rest of the time since, but he removed from there and now resides in Pickering District, SC where he has lived for the last two years.       The next document in Sherod's file is the following information:
      Pickens District, SC - Burrell Gean, brother of Sherrod Gean, appeared in court to make the following statement: Sherrod Gean died on our about the 15th of January 1844, he had lived in Pickens District for about 16 years at the time of his death. Previous to that Sherrod lived in Wilkes Co., GA. Burrell is the only legal heir and representative of Sherrod Gean, dec'd. Sherrod left no widow, and but one lawful heir a son, and the son died on or about the year 1847, and left no widow or surviving children. 26 Sept 1853 by mark of Burell Gean. Following this are statements of neighbors and friends who knew the two men, and stated that they were brothers. One of the statements was by an Elizabeth League, of Pickens District, who stated that she has known Sherrod Gean, dec'd and Burrell Jean for the last 55 or 60 years. That she was raised close by them and she does believe they are blood born brothers, and that "his" (Burrell's) mother and father always called them so. She further believes that Burrell is the only brother, sister, legal heir or representative surviving Sherrod Jean, dec'd. 26 Sept 1853
      The next document in the file is the power of attorney "Revolutionary Pension Claims" of Lewis Hardy Jeans. He is listed as L. Hardy Jeans of Jackson Co., GA - He is the only surviving child of Sherod Jean. 27 Sept 1853

      Rev War Pension File of John Bagwell #S6571
      25 Sept 1832 - Anderson Dist, SC - statement of John Bagwell of said district and state. That he started from Bute Co., NC and crossed the Cape Fear at Elizabethtown, eventually to Charleston SC, then eventually to Augusta GA, and was discharted after about five months sometime in the year 1778. About two years later he entered in the service in Hillsboro, NC - he was born in Halifax Co., NC, and was living in Bute Co., NC when first called into the service - he was drafted twice and enlisted once - File includes the following document, Wake Co., NC, Dec 20 1793 - we do hereby certify that John Bagwell, son of Mr. Daniel Bagwell of this county has faithfully serviced his country - file also includes the statement of William Bagwell, of Anderson Dist, SC who states that he is the brother of John Bagwell, and that he served for five months with him and they were in the Battle of Brier Creek together.
      The file includes the statement of Sherrard Gean of Pickens Dist, SC given in Anderson Dist, SC - 2 Oct 1834 - he states that he is acquainted with John Bagwell a Rev Soldier and that he served with him in the Rev War. They served for about twelve months in actual service together, then together they obtained a furlough and returned home - Signed Sherrod Gean
      Sherrod's statement is followed by the statement of Miles M. Norton a Notary Public & Ex-Officio a Justice - Anderson Dist SC - he states that he has made an inquiry (not being personally acquainted with Sherrod Gean) concerning the stand of Sherrod Gean in his own neighborhood, and understands from men of respectiability that he is believed to be an honest and truthful man, and a respectabale member of the Baptist Church. That he is a very poor man and has been in the district, but about twelve months, and being old and feeble formed but few acquaintances, but so far he is acquainted, is well thought of - signed Miles M.
